Legislation
Florida legislators close this session on a high note with the much anticipated passage of what has become known as the “pill mill bill.” Communities throughout Florida have witnessed the devastating effects of prescription drug abuse and voiced their concern over this epidemic. Tallahassee heard our cry and worked hard this session to take major steps in passing legislation that will help curb this epidemic.
Also passed this session is legislation that ban the retail sale of certain smoking devices in stores that do not met certain criteria such as having a tobacco permit. This bill will dramatically cut down the availability of drug paraphernalia being sold and marketed to the state’s youth.
Bills that sought to create point of purchasing messaging about alcohol and pregnancy and another that would crack down on open house parties were not enacted this session.
Ballot Initiatives
A group in Florida is currently collecting signatures in efforts to get a constitutional amendment on the 2012 ballot that would legalize marijuana under the guise of medicine. Like other pro-marijuana groups, they prey on society’s compassion for those who are chronically and/or terminally ill in order to further their goal of legalization.
So-called medical marijuana is a scam being pushed by people who want to profit from marijuana sales and make it easier for people to use marijuana to get high.
