Marijuana initiative: No quick fix for it
Marijuana initiative: No quick fix for it
Less than a year after Michigan voters approved it, an initiative authorizing doctors to prescribe marijuana for some patients has left employers in legal limbo.
One section explicitly bars employers from disciplining workers who use marijuana for medical purposes. Another section makes it clear that employers are not required to accommodate the "ingestion" of medical marijuana or tolerate employees who report to work under its therapeutic influence.
Where that leaves employers who attempt to discipline a registered marijuana user who comes to work stoned or scarfs a marijuana-laced brownie in the company cafeteria is anybody's guess.
