Los Angeles City Council Unanimously Votes To Ban Pot Shops!
On Tuesday, in an attempt to regulate an out-of-control proliferation of medical marijuana dispensaries in Los Angeles, the City Council voted 14-0 to ban pot shops.
Under the ban, all 762 dispensaries registered with the city will be sent a letter ordering them to shut down immediately. “Medical patients” and their “caregivers” will still be able to grow and share the drug in small groups of three people or less.
In what can be considered a contradictory move, the council also voted to instruct city staff to draw up an ordinance that would allow a group of about 170 previously registered dispensaries to remain open.
One City Councilman, Jose Huizar, stated that the ban would be enforced, especially against problem dispensaries that have drawn complaints from neighbors. “Relief is on its way,” he said.
We applaud the Los Angeles City Council’s decision to ban pot shops in their communities.
