Florida Lawmakers Take on Drug Free Workplace Drug Testing of State Employees

Legislation that paves the way for state agencies to maintain drug free work environments, by permitting random drug testing of their employees, is moving through the Florida Legislature.

House Bill 1205 and Senate Bill 1358 permit state agencies to randomly drug test employees every three months. Additionally, these bills remove certain provisions that limit circumstances under which state agencies may discharge an employee who worksin a special risk or safety-sensitive position. Senator Alan Hays, the bill’s sponsor, states “the bill gives state agencies the ability to drug test applicants just like private businesses.”

We commend Senator Hays on sponsoring legislation that promotesa drug free workplace environment for Florida’s state agencies.
